South St. Simons Island

Welcome to South St. Simons Island

The south end of St. Simons Island is well known for its Pier Village, Lighthouse, and Neptune Park. But from a real estate and housing perspective, it includes a much larger area.

Geographically, the South End includes everything south of Demere Road plus East Beach and south along Ocean Blvd. That’s a fair amount of territory. So when it comes to real estate on South St Simons Island, there’s a good chance you can find what you’re looking for. There are condos on the ocean and inland. Single-family homes of all sizes. We have gated, luxury communities and hidden-away, tree-canopied neighborhoods. There are lots of waterfront properties on the eastern and southern shores. Although most communities here are well established, there is still some undeveloped land available where you can build the house of your dreams.

So What’s It Like to Live Here?

If your home is in the Island’s southern quarter, you might be tempted to trade in your car for a golf cart and a couple of bicycles. Maybe a good pair of walking shoes as well. With a nice fishing rod, you can serve up your own fresh catch. And share some with Pete the Pelican, who likes to hang out on the Pier. You’ll also need a pair of binoculars for bird-watching and scanning the ocean for dolphins and sea life. For a great workout and an eagle’s view, climb the 129-step Lighthouse, then peruse the adjacent museum—the former home of the lighthouse keeper.

Golf Anyone?

If you’re a golfer, you probably know about the Sea Island Golf Club, located not on Sea Island, but right here in the South End. On your way in, you’ll pass through the 160-year-old Avenue of The Oaks. Home to the RSM Classic every November, the Club features three courses: Plantation, Seaside and Retreat, along with its renowned Golf Performance Center. On the same property sits our perennial five-star resort, The Lodge.

Watersports

And what would an island be without lots of ways to enjoy life on the water? Keep your boat, or rent one, at Morningstar Marina on the Torras Causeway, just before the Island entrance. Sign up for one of our sailing charters, sightseeing, and dolphin cruises. Take a kayaking expedition through our wildlife-filled salt marshes, or paddleboard around our calm seashore.

History and So Much More

Visit the Home Front Museum at Coast Guard Beach to learn about the action here during World War II. Have a beachfront picnic at Massengale Park. Take an aerial tour in a biplane at McKinnon—St. Simons Island Airport, our general aviation FBO terminal.

Shop at the Pier Village. Have breakfast, lunch, and dinner there too. Take the little ones to Neptune Park Pool and Playground. Play miniature golf. Have a picnic. See a play at the St. Simons Casino. Take a morning stroll on East Beach and watch for sea turtles. Browse the library. Enjoy summer concerts at the Lighthouse. Have a libation at any number of music venues. You’ll be amazed at the number and variety of talented musicians here.

When you need to stock the pantry, head north on Frederica Road from The Lodge entrance (at Kings Way). To your right will be the McKinnon-St. Simons Airport runway.

On the left, just before the roundabout, is Retreat Village Shopping Center, where you will find a Winn-Dixie supermarket and a bevy of shops and restaurants.
